Self-Portraits:
A self-portrait is a representation of a person about themselves that does not necessarily need to be representational. Self-portraits are a very popular type of art and photography used by many many photographers. There is also a lot of history to do with self portraits, making it a very appreciated genre of photography. A lot of opinions have been formed about self portraits, which have pretty much changed it to become how it is now, including the way self portraits are used, how they are shown etc. I personally like self portraits/portraits when they aren't of me. Self portraits are just like selfies, but selfies are just regular photos of you and/or someone else. For example, when you're out, and find something cool, you take a picture of yourself standing next to it but you'd call that a selfie right? Even though it is just like a self-portrait, it's still a selfie because there you wouldn't really be producing a portrait of yourself in an artistic way like if you were to sit down and draw/make a self portrait otherwise.

During the early 1950's, Maier had begun to venture into the art of photography after taking up the job of a nanny. Almost all of her work was based in Chicago and New York, and after consistently taking photos over the course of five decades, she would ultimately leave over 100,000 negatives. And after those five decades, Maier’s health began to deteriorate after she fell on a patch of ice, of which she sadly never recovered from, even after being put into a nursing home also leaving behind an immense archive of work when she died in 2009.
